Two of a Kind

Not since the days of "You-got-chocolate-in-my-peanut-butter!" "You-got-peanut-butter-in-my-chocolate!" has such an earth-shaking union been formed. I'm not talking about any peace accord or end to world hunger, I'm talking about the Olsen twins and Weezer.

  Holiday in the Sun

No, Weezer will not be guest stars on the Olsen twins' new hit show "So Little Time." (Yet.) And, no, Mary-Kate and Ashley will not be opening for Weezer on the second leg of their U.S. tour. (Yet...) But our favorite pre-teen blonde bombshells will be covering Weezer's single "Island In The Sun" for the soundtrack of their soon-to-be-seen-Saturday-afternoons-on-Fox-Family-Channel film "Holiday In The Sun."

Do I need to elaborate on the implications of this historic alliance? I think I do: Paring Rivers Cuomo's angst-and-doubt-ridden songwriting with the chirpy stylings of the Olsen Twins is yet another manifestation of the eternal battle between salty and sweet, yin and yang, Blair and Jo. Here we may both wallow in our introspective self-doubt and in our desire to just go to the mall and eat Cinnabon.

"But theoretics aside," You say, "What will this musical oddity sound like? It could be terrible." It most likely will. I predict some plinky keyboards and an obviously-electronically-replicated steel drum. But then again, it might be genius. This might be just what the world has been waiting for: the musical breakthrough that will solve every problem and injustice in the world -- the one that Rufus promised us so many years ago. Together at last, The Olsen Twins, the Power of Cute, backed by Weezer, the Power of Rock, might just save our souls. --Sarah Feuquay
